About the Artist

Connie Cavanaugh

I spent my youth on a ranch in north central Idaho.  The scenery and wildlife of my childhood home motivated me to draw and paint at an early age.  My husband and I now live on Craig Mountain, located in the same general area, in the heart of a sportsman’s paradise.  We wake up every morning to fresh air, wildlife, and the wonderful peace of the mountains.  Our home provides the perfect inspiration for my artwork.

I started my art career by taking art classes from the University of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State College. Over the years I have also taken art courses from Walla Walla Community College and participated in various workshops given by local artists.  I accomplished all of this while I was still teaching elementary school!

I did poster and cover work for Christian organizations early in my career.  My art productivity has increased through the years as I diversified my artistic knowledge and learned new disciplines.  I studied portraiture because I find great enjoyment in capturing the heart of the individual and the personality of the subject.  I also enjoy depicting wildlife, which is abundant on Craig Mountain. I currently work in pastels, scratchboard, and acrylics.
